Bath Building Society launches UK's first Lending Criteria Chatbot
13 March 2023
Bath Building Society has partnered with Consecutus to launch the UK's first ever conversational AI chatbot for Intermediaries. This innovative solution enables brokers and intermediaries to get instant, accurate answers to lending criteria questions around the clock.
The AI chatbot is a smart addition to the Society's live chat function, designed to make life easier for Intermediaries looking for a quick answer 24/7. Unlike traditional FAQ pages, the chatbot understands natural language queries and returns precise, validated responses drawn directly from the Society's current lending criteria.
Bea (Bath's electronic assistant) has joined the Society's team as a fully integrated digital colleague. She handles a wide range of intermediary queries — from income multiples and acceptable deposit sources to self-employed applicants and property type restrictions — freeing human staff to focus on more complex interactions.
"We're always looking for ways to improve the experience for our intermediary partners. Bea is a great example of how smart technology can deliver real, practical value. Intermediaries work at all hours, and having an AI assistant that can answer lending criteria questions accurately and instantly is a genuine benefit to everyone involved."
The chatbot was built and trained using Consecutus's proprietary AI Bot and integrated Webchat platform, which has been designed specifically for regulated financial services organisations. The platform ensures responses remain within the boundaries of the Society's documented criteria, reducing the risk of incorrect advice being given.
Paul D'Ambra, CEO of Consecutus, said:
"Bath Building Society had a clear vision of what they wanted to achieve for their intermediary channel, and we're proud to have delivered it. This is a first for the UK mortgage market, and we believe it sets a new benchmark for how building societies can use AI to improve broker experience without compromising accuracy or compliance."
The launch of Bea represents a significant step in Bath Building Society's digital strategy and follows a broader trend of UK mutual lenders investing in technology to remain competitive and improve service delivery in a market increasingly driven by intermediary distribution.
